Sup holmes. You like tacos? Well I know this place right down the street, fool.
It’s called Gonzo’s and it’s fairly new to the Fullerton area. I had been eyeing it for a while, and as you might have already read about HERE – I made Eddie go with me when I was still sick but craving tacos.
All taco places have had to go up against our infamous taco truck from Van Nuys years ago – Brothers Tacos. They made LEGIT tacos that I affectionately dubbed “Asada Explosions” and you could get them for $1.50 per. People would sit on buckets and just mack on tacos all night long. We were lucky enough to live right across from the street where they set up shop every night (and their two little twin girls would do their homework on the side of the truck). Until we moved away to Orange County and had to adapt to new options.
To this day, nothing really compares to Brothers Tacos, but we’ve had a few come in real close – and Gonzo’s is one of them.
The tacos (tortilla, meat and fixin’s) are all on point and super tasty. For almost $3 a taco, they certainly pack them with meat so a few tacos is certainly enough. We shared asada and carnitas tacos between us, but then – typical Eddie – wanted a Mulitas too.
Mulitas = Mexican pizza. (Hey, I had no idea). And damn, did it throw Taco Bell’s Mexican pizza out of the park. Holy moly, holmes – super cheesy, meaty and full of fresh tomatoes and cilantro. SWOON, fool, swoon.
With a beer and all this food I was positively stuffed. It was an amazing meal, and their SAUCES:
So creamy, so verde.
What’s cool about this place is they are right down town and have the huge open windows that are right up against the sidewalk.
They also have breakfast and are open until 4am on the weekends (full bar is located within Gonzo’s, called Longfellows). If we ever venture into DTF at night, I’ll be going here.
It also doesn’t hurt that they have such a cool style. The Mexican café style with good views and one entrance in the front, and one out the back. Easy getaway, especially if you try to jack this low rider on the wall..
Also – NFL game menus throughout the week. Raiders will automatically be on the TV screens unless you can persuade them to change it to something else. Perfect place for Eddie this fall.
And sweet little details:
Pretty sweet place! My new go-to taco place (and can’t wait to try everything else on the menu). Plus it’s within one of the many historical buildings in Fullerton:
So if you don’t know, now you know, fool!
